Abstract: The synthesis is given of a series of 7 benzoxazole cyanine dyes, used as green-sensitizing dyes in photographic emulsions. The compounds are characterized by mass spectrometric and NMR data. HPLC and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry proved efficient methods to test anionic and cationic homogeneity, respectively. LTV-Vis data of the compounds at the monomeric and J-state were considered with respect to their performance (sensitivity increase and contrast) in photographic T-grain emulsions.
