This study investigated by means of a Network Safety Management process the hazardous road sections on local roads in the suburbs Merksem and Ekeren (Antwerp). More in detail, the relationship between crash occurrences and road characteristics were examined. Results showed that for the all accidents model four variables seem to contribute the number of accidents; exposure data, terraced buildings, apartments and houses, and parking at both sides of the road. The injury only accidents model revealed the same variables as the all accidents model. The exposure data and parking at both sides of the road were also fitted, with the variable adjacent cycle path as an additional explanatory variable. Each street was tested by these variables and based on the upper limit (95% confidence level) of the predicted crashes, the most dangerous road sections were identified. From this can be concluded that taking into account both types of accidents, a few streets can be considered as dangerous.-
