Title: David Huycke & students: Best of 10 years PXL-MAD
Contributors/Performers: HUYCKE, David
Issue Date: 2015
Abstract: The exhibition 'DAVID HUYCKE & STUDENTS: Best of 10 years PXL-MAD' at the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus in Hanau shows an overview of the work of the Belgian silversmith and object-artist David Huycke. This exhibition takes place at the silver room in the museum and will cover 20 years of his work. Alongside this exhibition a selection of jewellery and objects is shown from David Huycke’s master-students and colleague researchers, with whom he has worked during the past 10 years at the PXL-MAD in Hasselt, Belgium. In the exhibition of David Huycke three different periods can be distinguished. First there will be the objects from the beginning of his career as a silversmith, dating the mid 90’s. Next to his more known works such as his bowl sets, the Bolinder-series and the first objects made in granulation he will show pieces that have not been exhibited in Germany before. The second part of the exhibition will have a clear focus on the works he made in the project The Metamorphic Ornament: Re-Thinking Granulation for which he received his PhD in art, conducted by the Hasselt University (B) and the University of Louvain (B). In this project Huycke questions the contemporary relevance of the ancient decorative technique of granulation, a project that was basically initiated by the exhibition held in the Goldschmiedehaus in 1996, Ganulation96. The third part of the exhibition will show his most recent work. All together approximately 70 objects will be on display. The second part of the exhibition is a selection made by David Huycke covering 10 years of work produced by his master students (department Object & Jewellery) and colleague researchers (research-group Manufracture) of PXL-MAD Hasselt (B). About 25 students and researchers will show more than 200 pieces of jewellery and objects.
