| dc.description.abstract | Werk dat ik maakte voor de SUR FACE groepstentoonstelling: Het oppervlak is onrustig: tien kunstenaars uit verschillende disciplines zijn op zoek naar hoogtij in het Diestse binnenwater. Onoplettend voor de draaikolken in de hen onbekende wateren zeilen ze elkaars grondgebied binnen. De manoeuvres gebeuren niet zonder enige wrijving of splinters, maar de nadruk op het beeld houdt de conversatie eensgezind. De tentoonstelling SUR FACE brengt tien kunstenaars en hun werk samen in een stukje erfgoed van Diest. Aan de dialoog die de kunstwerken met elkaar voeren dringt de zeventiende-eeuwse kelder van het pand zich uitvoerig op als elfde gesprekspartner. Hij doorbreekt de conversatie abrupt maar legt tegelijkertijd de nadruk op een dynamisch spel. Eentje van boven en onder, beiden inwisselbaar: je botst op het wolkendek als op een stenen gewelf en de grond is mul als drijfzand – maar wegzakken doe je nooit. Er wordt houvast geboden in tekeningen en schilderijen, in installaties en sculpturen, die als boeien ronddobberen of licht wriemelend de aarde omspitten. | arts.review.researchContext | I am recently experimenting with three-dimensional work, and for this exhibition i made my first plaster sculpture. I see sculptures as a way to invigorate my drawings and paintings. The works refer to themes that became increasingly important in my writing practice. The four chapters i am working on (ruin, water, desert and winter) all have a sense of destruction to them, which is also present in the drawings and painting that i show in this expo. The sculpture refers to waves, and to the islamic architecture, also an important element in my work. | - |
