Title: | One More Take. Photographs by John G. Zimmerman | Contributors/Performers: | DE WINDE, Arne VAN SPEYBROECK, Lieven Lambrecht, Wim |
Issue Date: | 2016 | Abstract: | From October 2016 to January 2017, the work of the American photographer John G. Zimmerman (1927-2002) was exhibited in Europe for the very first time. Zimmerman is an icon of American magazine photography, doing hundreds of covers and stories for major magazines such as LIFE, Time and Sports Illustrated; he was a technological pioneer for whom there was "no such thing as an impossible photograph"; and, as one of the "Mad Men" of the 1960-70s he produced innovating advertising campaigns for companies such as Coca-Cola, Marlboro, etc. This multi-faceted oeuvre was on display at the Abtenhuis in the city of Geraardsbergen, a majestic historical building that has been closed to the public for decades now. Moreover, five contemporary artists were invited to respond to Zimmerman's work: Filip Berte, Marc De Blieck, Michiel De Cleene, Emmanuel Van der Auwera, Floris Vanhoof. | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/24278 | Discipline: | beeldende kunsten | Research Context: | This exhibit was based on archival research at the John G.
