Abstract

waysofpresentation (since 2015) and anneleenswillen (con)temporary jewellery (since 2016) are ongoing visual studies into the (potential) roles of presentations and their influence on our experience and interpretation. Through waysofpresentation Anneleen aims to develop a versatile collection of images of existing and potential ways of presentation. It’s an active archive, made accessible for viewing and participation through social media. Share your ways of presentation via #waysofpresentation @waysofpresentation Via anneleenswillen you can follow her daily ‘(con)temporary jewellery selfie pieces’: a collection of experiments to reflect upon (aspects of) jewellery and their virtual (re)presentations. By wearing, shaping, manipulating, transforming, combining and showing various objects and materials she explores and challenges assumed understandings of contemporary art jewellery creation, presentation and perception. Social media are omnipresent platforms that are frequently used for (self-) presentations within and beyond artistic contexts. waysofpresentation and anneleenswillen (con)temporary jewellery, created for and developed within the context of social media, are part of Anneleen’s PhD research on ‘presentation within contemporary art jewellery practice’ (Hasselt University and PXL-MAD, School of Arts, Hasselt, BE). By using these popular media within her PhD research, she explores alternative presentation and creation formats for artistic academic research and the communication thereof. For Without a Jewel, Anneleen created two screen capture films as intermediary presentations of the ongoing projects waysofpresentation and anneleenswillen (con)temporary jewellery. By showing the act of surfing and swiping through the feed and its individual images, she challenges herself and the viewer to reflect upon the current state of these projects, and to contribute to their further developments.
