Abstract: Highlights: o Hip dysplasia is a significant risk factor for hip osteoarthritis. o Patients with hip osteoarthritis often suffer from muscle imbalance or atrophy of the muscles surrounding the hip. o Important muscles concerning the muscle imbalance of people with hip osteoarthritis or hip dysplasia are: m. gluteus maximus/medius, m. tensor fasciae latae and m. iliopsoas. o The impact of exercise therapy on the muscles surrounding the hip of people with hip osteoarthritis or hip dysplasia should be investigated more.
