Adjustments to the application Praat for automated file handling

Abstract

Research into visual prosody requires a large amount of voice recordings. To acquire those, the open source application Praat was used (Developed by Paul Boersma and David Weenink: http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat). But manual file naming proved prone to errors and is time consuming. The open source nature of Praat allowed for adjustments in the application. A new interface to the recording window allowed for automatic file numbering and file saving. These additions proved to be reliable time savers, preparing a dataset with files immediately ready for speech analysis. The adaptations are to be found at https://github.com/READSEARCH/praat
