At the moment, a lot of industrial heritage is not being used at its maximum. There are a lot of historical buildings ready to be re-used. This thesis documents research findings on how this kind of interesting historical buildings can be transformed into performance spaces. First of all, there will be a literature study where the terms industrial heritage and performance will be explained. After that the silo building A of SAMGA, the site where this research will be applied on, will be discussed. There will be a research on the current state of the site, its surrounding and its future plans. After this the original working of the building will be discussed and analysed as a base for the further development. Then there will be four case studies to investigate how architects handled existing buildings while turning it into performance spaces. Out of these cases, lessons will be learned and these will form a base for the approach of the SAMGA building. Eventually these lessons will turn into a kind of guidebook for other projects in the future. Out of this guidebook the aspects which are the most applicable within the SAMGA building, will be used as a base to form the approach of the master project.
