Title: EXIT 2020 - catalog
Contributors/Performers: VERBAENEN, Walda
Issue Date: 2020
Abstract: EXIT 2020 catalog Client: PXL MAD School of arts, Hasselt, Belgium Design (cover and inside pages) of the 'EXIT 2020' catalog. This catalog shows the graphic works of graduating MA students of PXL MAD school of Arts. The letters 'EXIT' & '2020' were designed for this cover. '2020' is designed as an endless loop, and is embossed (raised) as an ornament above 'EXIT'. The letters 'EXIT' are punched out. Depending on the angle and the light that comes through when opening the book, a different 'exit' shadow is created on the inside page. To maintain purity, the cover has not been printed. Black colored cardboard (Sirio Black black) has been used to create a deep matte black in combination with the red linen (Brilliant® 4070) binding of the book to provide a nice contrast. In order to indicate the different specializations of the graduates, numbers were designed in the same font as the letters and numbers on the cover for each 'chapter'. Text and images are placed within a well-balanced grid, allowing for different layouts. In this way, cover and inside pages are related and connected. The use of typeface Museo Sans as well as the Condensed version (Jos Buivenga - Adobe fonts) for the text gives serenity within the pages, despite the amount of text and images.
