Title: Shadows of the Past
Contributors/Performers: KONSCHAKE, Maria
Issue Date: 2022
Abstract: The group "Shadows of the Past" is an exploration of the plurality of cultural memory. Within this part of my research, I work with historical objects from certain museum collections. The objects are then 3D scanned and changed with different techniques from the Archive of Possibilities. This makes some elements stand out while others fade into the background.

Research Context: The intention of this work is to create new aesthetic and emotional constellations and to question the concept of reality by visualising the simultaneity of different versions of the world. If we look at historical objects whose bearers have long been forgotten, there is always some room for interpretation. The true function of the things is lost and even if the objects still carry memories, it is impossible for us to decipher them all. Negating or emphasizing certain elements can distort our vision. So far, all objects in this series are based on 3D scans of objects from the collection of the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum (Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim) in Germany.
Impact Description: 3 of the rings were displayed within the exhibition 'SIGNS, SIGNALS, + SYMBOLS' at the Baltimore Jewelry Center from December 02, 2022 until February 10, 2023. They were also presented in an online panel discussion (in the context of the exhibition) on February 9, 2023. A bigger group of 10 rings will be displayed in the exhibition 'Treasures, Trials & Troubles' during Munich Jewelry Week 2023.
