dc.description.abstract | The results of the preliminary three tested designs and previous empirical index research were used for funnelling down further testing and design. Parameters are now clustered in conventional and unconventional designs. In total 125 student participants (BE) took the test. Link to test and design adaptations in the questionnaire: https://uhasselt.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_72F9M5BGjqUfZLU The research test material won a TDC Award (Communication Design winner); 2022 Certificate of Typographic Excellence Type Directors Club, New York City (USA) New ways of search-reading magazines (2021-2022) | - |

arts.review.researchContext | Based on previous test results (Adaptation design for 3 preliminary preference tests), the design of the 4 magazines (containing 4 different readers and 4 different index booklets), the questions and the instruction forms were developed. Conventional and unconventional index-typography is designed to connect the indexes with other typographic cues throughout the magazine’s content for navigational aid. The diversity of indexes will be used for specific search tasks. A route map of this test was made. The internet is used as an archival playground for re-posting discussions and making new connections in narratives for the content of the magazines. The relationship between the landscape and the beauty or distraction of functional artefacts is re-ensembled. | - |
arts.review.impactDescription | The test material and design will generate new data upon which further research is built. The test outcomes will be implemented in new designs and for educational purposes. | - |
