Research Context: How do we remember heirlooms that we can no longer find but that had great significance for their former owners? What do these memories say about the subjective value of objects? And how does the memory of others influence our own memory? All this is the subject of "Deceptive (memories)". In this work I go on a search for the lost past. The garnet rings shown here are based on the memories of a family heirloom. These memories - visualised in gold and garnets - emerged in conversations with different people. All the rings of this work are reminiscent of the same heirloom, and yet they are all different. Within my research, the work falls into the category of objects that are based on memory related deviation.
Impact Description: The rings were first shown publicly in the exhibition "in absence" at the PXL-MAD School of Arts in Hasselt, Belgium, from 20.04.2023 to 11.05.2023.
