dc.description.abstract | For the event #StolenMemory in Hasselt, artists and writers were invited to make an artwork or text inspired by a selection of objects from the Arolsen Archives. These archives contain pictures and other objects from victims of the Nazi regime. One of these objects is a photograph from the collection of Gustav Weisschuh, which is used for this animated video. Together with the voice-over, the animation creates a back-and-forth motion through which the hope of the arrival of the photograph at its destination continually increases and decreases. The video is a loop, which could in theory keep on playing until the rightful owner of the picture is found. In this way, the video becomes a metaphor for all objects in the Arolsen Archives: neither lost, nor found. | - |
