Based on the available evidence we evaluated a new MAC protocol with intranasal dexmedetomidine as the primary choice. To assess a difference in patient satisfaction and anesthesia-related discomfort between GA and MAC in ambulatory dental surgery, a study was conducted among patients undergoing various dental procedures. Patient satisfaction and anesthesia-related discomfort were assessed on the first postoperative day using the Bauer patient satisfaction questionnaire. Results Although the differences were small, patients in the MAC group were overall more satisfied with the general care compared to the GA group (p < 0.02). Patients in the MAC group reported more postoperative drowsiness compared to the GA group (p < 0.05), but less postoperative hoarseness and sore throat (p = 0.005 and p < 0.001, respectively). Moreover, postoperative thirst was more common in the GA group (p = 0.002). In conclusion, the differences in patient satisfaction and anesthesia-related discomfort between GA and MAC in this implementation study were small but appeared to favor MAC with intranasal dexmedetomidine over GA as anesthesia method during dental ambulatory surgery. | Research Discipline: | Medical and health sciences > Clinical sciences > Anaesthesiology > Anaesthesiology not elsewhere classified (03020199) | Keywords: | Space Science;Medicine;Genetics;FOS: Biological sciences;Physiology;59999 Environmental Sciences not elsewhere classified;FOS: Earth and related environmental sciences;Immunology;FOS: Clinical medicine;69999 Biological Sciences not elsewhere classified;Cancer;Science Policy | DOI: | 10.6084/m9.figshare.c.6577558 | Link to publication/dataset: | https://springernature.figshare.com/collections/A_comparative_study_of_patient_satisfaction_about_anesthesia_with_dexmedetomidine_for_ambulatory_dental_surgery/6577558 | Source: | figshare. 10.6084/m9.figshare.c.6577558 https://springernature.figshare.com/collections/A_comparative_study_of_patient_satisfaction_about_anesthesia_with_dexmedetomidine_for_ambulatory_dental_surgery/6577558 | Publications related to the dataset: | 10.1186/s13104-022-06246-2 | Publications related to the dataset: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/39276 | Access Rights: | Closed Access | Category: | DS | Type: | Dataset |
