Abstract: Seeking the connection (with citizens) in conflict resolution, is the title of an extensive farewell interview with prof. Eric Lancksweerdt, at the occasion of his retirement as a TMD co-editor after more than 10 years. Eric’s key area of interest has always been civic participation and the development of democratic citizenship, and the obvious chemistry between these notions and mediation in administrative law disputes. Through his major research publications, and his educational projects, Eric has become a pioneer at the crossroads of these areas. A wide variety of subjects is discussed, ranging from the authors and thinkers that have inspired him, to the practical use of tools such as ‘deep democracy’, the first ever mediation moot competitions in Belgium, and his involvement in educational assistance programs around the globe. As a service to readers, the interview contains many references to relevant work and studies.
