Abstract: This thesis provides an insight in haptic textures and their practical use. The thesis is divided in three parts. Part 1 is a Dutch summary for the Dutch readers. In Part 2 we will express the importance of computer haptics and situate where haptic textures reside. From a related work study meaningful thoughts about human perception of roughness are put forward. Next, six techniques from different research papers are presented. A conclusion will postulate rising questions and set an aim for the next part of this thesis. In Part 3 we look into the use of haptic textures in information visualization. We create our own application as a base for a user test. The user test should give us some answers about how people explore textures and the possibility of using them to convey data.
