Title: | Pre-motor and motor activities in early handwriting | Other Titles: | Pre-motor and motor activities in early medieval handwriting - it looks Flemish | Authors: | VAN ZWIETEN, Koos Jaap | Issue Date: | 2011 | Publisher: | Faculty of Fine Arts, University College Ghent, Member of Ghent University Association | Source: | De Preester, Helena; Huvenne, Martine (Ed.). In consequence, Fisher et al. (2010) studying brain activation during rejected love, noticed typical pre-motor activity patterns, as suggested by irregular writing patterns as well, due to basal ganglia dysfunction (Mergl et al., 2004). A short historical text written in a presumably depressed mood was checked on such characteristics in the light of hypothesised finger-, and hand movements possibly related to pre-motor activities in e.g. unrequited love. Down-strokes in particular require coordination of extrinsic, but especially intrinsic hand- and finger- muscles. Rounded forms ask for well-coordinated interphalangeal joint motion. We conclude that no basal ganglia dysfunction was present. | Notes: | State-of-the-art presentation by an invited "Special Poster" at this International 3-days Conference. The present study was originally initiated on the occasion of a 2006 project kick-off meeting on : “The Chant of the Secular Clergy in the Low Countries: Music and Liturgy at the Collegiate Church in Tongeren”. During the project, linguistic contributions by various university colleagues were also taken into account | Keywords: | Handwriting; Depressed patients; Basal ganglia dysfunction; Interphalangeal motion; Coordination of wrist- and finger-movements; Linguistics; Carolingian minuscules | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/13049 | Link to publication/dataset: | http://www.kaskprojecten.be/innermovement/abstracts/ | Rights: | © Faculty of Arts, Ghent University College, Ghent, Belgium | Category: | C2 | Type: | Proceedings Paper |
