Niet enkel meer via 1 op 1 allianties, maar ook meer in grotere samenwerkingsverbanden. In deze thesis wordt één type van samenwerkingsverband onder de loep genomen, namelijk: R&D consortia. Centraal in deze thesis staan twee case study's over zogenaamde facilitators, CTMM en IMI.
