Abstract: This pictorial essay consists of sixty one cases of pathology of the hand, studied by different imaging techniques. The cases are selected by the speakers of the symposium "HANDLEIDEN" and "HANDWERPEN", organized in Leiden, the Netherlands and Antwerpen, Belgium on Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21, 2006, and are representative for their communications, covering the whole spectrum of pathology from normal variants, congenital pathology, bone age, arthritis, endocrinological, traumatic, tumoral and vascular pathology to radio-pathological and radio-surgical conrontations and focusing on specific topics of modern imaging techniques of the hand, the mirror of the human body. The cases are organized as questions and answers, they consist of a short clinical introduction, and a brief description of findings on medical imaging. Thereafter the reader is invited o make a diagnosis or a suitably ordered differential diagnosis and compare his findings with the final (histologically proven) diagnosis, shortly formulated at the end of each case report.
