Émotions, subjectivité et morphosyntaxe : l’impact de la clôture actancielle sur les verbes pronominaux à attribut de l’objet

Abstract

Dans la présente contribution, nous montrerons comment la morphosyntaxe, plus particulièrement la construction pronominale, parvient à infléchir le « sens » d’un certain nombre de classes de verbes qui se construisent avec un attribut du COD, le rapprochant de la sphère du ressenti, de l’intuitif et du subjectif. Deux mécanismes seront identifiés. D’une part, la clôture actancielle entraînée par l’opérateur réfléchi modifie les fondements évidentiels et cognitifs de l’attribution impliquée par les verbes en question. D’autre part, l’auto-attribution de propriétés donne lieu à des implicatures contrefactuelles. Ces mécanismes doivent être distingués de la subjectivité obtenue à la suite d’un processus de grammaticalisation et qui conduit à la création de nouvelles copules pronominales (p. ex. se vouloir ).

In this paper, it is shown that morpho-syntax, and more specifically the reflexive pronoun, can affect the meaning of a couple of verb classes that are constructed with an object complement. The resulting effect is related to the area of what is felt intuitively or what is somehow subjective. Two mechanisms are identified. On the one hand, the self-affectedness effect induced by the reflexive operator modifies the evidential and cognitive basis of the assignation of properties by the verb. On the other hand, the self-assignation of properties yields counterfactual implicatures. Both mechanisms have to be distinguished from the subjectivity obtained in the framework of grammaticalization processes and which leads to the creation of new pronominal copular verbs, such as se vouloir.
