Title: | Efficiency at maximum power in the low-dissipation limit | Authors: | VAN DEN BROECK, Christian | Issue Date: | 2013 | Publisher: | EPL ASSOCIATION, EUROPEAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY | Source: | EPL, 101 (1) | Abstract: | We present a general thermodynamic framework for the low-dissipation limit. In the case of an iso-thermal engine, which converts chemical work into mechanical work, this theory predicts an efficiency at maximum power eta* identically equal to 1/2. For multi-bath thermal machines, we derive bounds for efficiency at maximum power, namely eta(rev)/2 <= eta* <= eta(rev)/(2-eta(rev)), where eta(rev) is the efficiency of the corresponding reversible scenario. | Notes: | Hasselt Univ, B-3590 Diepenbeek, Belgium. | Keywords: | physics, multidisciplinary | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/16964 | ISSN: | 0295-5075 | e-ISSN: | 1286-4854 | DOI: | 10.1209/0295-5075/101/10006 | ISI #: | 000314153700007 | Rights: | Copyright © EPLA, 2013. | Category: | A1 | Type: | Journal Contribution | Validations: | ecoom 2014 |
