Title: | Hasselt UIMS: a tool for describing multimodal interactions with composite events | Authors: | CUENCA LUCERO, Fredy VAN DEN BERGH, Jan LUYTEN, Kris CONINX, Karin |
Issue Date: | 2015 | Publisher: | ACM | Source: | Proceedings of the 7th ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems(EICS '15), p. 226-229 | Abstract: | Implementing multimodal interactive systems with eventdriven tools requires splitting the code across multiple event handlers, which greatly complicate programmers’ work. To alleviate this complexity we propose to extend the capabilities of existing event-driven tools so that instead of detecting user events as if they were independent, they are able to detect sequences of semantically related events defined by programmers. Such extended capability can only be possible with notations for (1) defining event patterns, and for (2) binding these patterns with one or multiple event handlers, and (3) specifying human-machine dialogs. This paper presents Hasselt UIMS, a tool that supports the creation of multimodal interfaces with these notations. | Keywords: | multimodal systems; composite events; human-machine dialog; finite state machines | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/19122 | ISBN: | 9781450336468 | DOI: | 10.1145/2774225.2775437 | Rights: | Permission to make digital or hard copies of part or all of this work for personal or classroom use is granted without fee provided that copies are not made or distributed for profit or commercial advantage and that copies bear this notice and the full citation on the first page.
