Proceedings of the 178th Scientific Meeting - 178ste Wetenschappelijke Vergadering (Art N° P11), p. 27-28 | Abstract: | In the extended finger the lateral bundles (lateral bands) of the extensor assembly along the trochlea of the PIP (proximal interphalangeal) joint are located between frontal and sagittal planes. During PIP flexion, the lateral bundles “tilt” somewhat towards sagittal planes, thus assuming slightly more palmar positions. They thereby “release” the extended DIP (distal interphalangeal) joint, enabling this joint to be flexed as well. In subsequent full DIP flexion, the lateral bundles obtain their nearly sagittal positions, running along the trochlea of the flexed PIP joint. | Notes: | Includes the summaries of several BSc and Junior MSc Theses in Clinical Molecular Sciences, University of Hasselt, Belgium, as well as Conference Material presented at two joint meetings of the Dutch and Belgian Societies of Radiology, during the past decade. | Keywords: | extensor assembly of the human finger; lateral bundles; lateral bands; in-vivo observation; interphalangeal flexion; Proximal Interphalangeal (P.I.P.) joint; palmar shift / palmar gliding; Distal Interphalangeal (D.I.P.) joint; extensor tendon repair and reconstruction techniques; traumatic hand injuries | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/20467 | Link to publication/dataset: | http://www.anatomen.nl/congres/ | DOI: | 10.13140/RG.2.1.1744.3927 | Rights: | © 2016, Dutch Anatomical Society - Nederlandse Anatomen Vereniging (N.A.V.) | Category: | C2 | Type: | Proceedings Paper |
