Non-equilibium statistical physics in general and the Totally / Partially Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process in particular are far from being ’solved’: there are still many questions to be answered, and, as per usual in physics, each answer inevitably spurs new questions. In spite of their apparent simplicity, exclusion processes exhibit nontrivial out-of-equilibrium behaviour, that one is as of yet unable to completely capture analytically. One thing that is lacking in the TASEP is time reversal symmetry. As this absence excludes the possibility of applying fluctuation theorems, our next step will be to investigate the PASEP and its properties.-
