Paargedrag en sexuele selectie in de simultaan hermafrodiete platworm Dugesia Gonocephala

Abstract

In this study, the mating system of Dugesia gonocephala was investigated, both from a behavioural and morphological approach. This has lead to a wealth of information, written down over the years in eight manuscripts and articles. Since these manuscripts were compiled in this work, the chapters differ slightly in language (American or English spelling) and presentation. There is also some overlap in the introductions, methods and discussions. The first chapter is added, in order to explain why and how this work was carried out, including the main results and discussions. This should not only give a first idea of the fascinating sex life of Dugesia gonocephala, it should also elucidate why these results are so important for our understanding of hermaphroditic mating systems.
