Abstract: In our laboratory we are exploring the scope of the sulphinyl precursor route by synthesising electron poor PPV-derivatives. These polymers can be created by implanting electron-accepting groups on the phenyl ring of PPV (cyano or nitro) or by replacing this ring by an electron-withdrawing heteroaromtic core like pyridine, bipyridine or quinoline. In this way we hope to get a deeper insight in the polymerisation process and we will be able to synthesise new polymers that may find many applications in plastic electronics.
