This Special Issue of Materials Today: Proceedings aims to providing insight into the diverse nature of topics that were covered during the 28th edition of the International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials, which was held from September 3rd to 7th 2017 in beautiful Gothenburg, Sweden. DCM 2017 attracted 295 participants from 43 different countries. During four days, 264 presentations were given, including two high-level keynote lectures and 17 invited lectures. The conference covers a wide range of carbon materials topics in rapidly moving fields, such as Quantum Photonics, and revisits longstanding subjects with new and exciting developments, like (Photo)catalysis on Carbon Surfaces and Wide Band Gap Power Electronics, which were each highlighted as special Focused Sessions. We hope that this selection of papers reflects the diversity of research that was presented at the meeting and that it will inspire you in your own future research.-
