Detection of human papillomavirus 67 single infection in high-grade cervical lesions: Case report and review of literature

Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 and 18 account for 70 of all invasivecervical cancers (ICCs).1,2The bivalent (Cervarix) and quadrivalent(Gardasil) prophylactic vaccines are efficacious in reducing HPV16 and18 prevalence and associated cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)lesions.1–3Furthermore, a nonavalent vaccine additionally incorporat-ing HPV31, 33, 45, 52, and 58 (IARC group 1 carcinogens) virus-likeparticles (VLPs) appeared favourable with an estimated reduction incervical cancer of over 90%.4,5However, other HPV types rarely asso-ciated with cervical cancer may gain in importance.3,6,7Herein, wepresent an uncommon case of a HPV67-associated high-grade squa-mous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL)
