Abstract: The effects of global warming are rapidly becoming more apparent.1 Every decade in the last thirty years has seen an increase in the average temperature on the earth’s surface as compared to the preceding decade (Figure 1). They have each been warmer than any decade since systematic measurements started in 1850. Globally averaged combined land and ocean surface temperature data show an increase between 0.8 and 1.2 °C over the period from 1880 to 2018.2
