Abstract: The microstructure of PPV is very efficiently modified by partial oxidation of the sulfinyl precursor polymer towards PPV. Controlled oxidation leads to a copolymer with sulfinyl and sulfonyl groups. The sulfinyl groups can be eliminated selectively yielding PPV with restricted conjugation lengths. The optical properties of the obtained conjugated polymers change linearly with the amount in introduced sp(3) defects while the efficiencies of photoluminescence rise also linearly and considerably.
