Abstract: In this paper, an experimental and numerical study were developed to evaluate the behavior of stainless steel bolted connections subjected to shear load until rupture, in which austenitic stainless steel 304 was used. In order to determine the material behavior, tensile coupon tests were performed. The numerical model was developed in Abaqus finite element program using dynamic explicit analysis and solid elements (C3D8) with an elastic-plastic stress-strain curve with strain hardening and damage criteria. Additionally, a comparison of the results with the recommendations given by the current standards for stainless steel structures was also accomplished.
