Title: | Using networked multimedia in computer graphics education | Authors: | VAN REETH, Frank CONINX, Karin |
Issue Date: | 1998 | Publisher: | ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV | Source: | COMPUTER NETWORKS AND ISDN SYSTEMS, 30(20-21). p. 2065-2073 | Abstract: | Traditional tools used in education, such as black- or white-boards, overhead transparencies, slides and video tapes, are increasingly more complemented with computer-based multimedia material. This tendency will most certainly also affect the way in which computer graphics education is undertaken. Indeed, with its intrinsic targeting of images and animated sequences, computer graphics education is ideally suited for applying multimedia. With ever increasing capabilities of campus networks, as well as the increased popularity of the Internet, it becomes worthwhile to moreover introduce networked multimedia into graphics education. This paper describes the interactive multimedia database we set up to support this kind of education. The developed system, its networking aspects, as well as the tools realised for creating, manipulating and formatting the teaching content will be discussed. Demonstrative applications in a computer graphics teaching environment are highlighted and directions of future work are given. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
