Abstract: By a detailed review of some swing & dance bands active in the West Indies up to 40 years ago, we checked how likely it was, that the then Surinamese youth could develop into now experienced dancers, in their spare time. This meets the conclusions and recommendations by Chang (2009) [1] in his research on keeping today's elderly people in Suriname fit, by means of enjoyable physical activities.
