Abstract: Movement possibilities of normal proximal interphalangeal (P.I.P.-) joints in human fingers were analysed, anatomically. By plane geometry applied in frontal ( coronal) plane HR-MRI of the mating articular surfaces in situ, we elucidated their asymmetries and incongruences. Most of our outcome data suggest further refinements of initial and recent P.I.P. - joint - prostheses designs.
