Tachtig CHF-patiënten maten tweemaal per week hun natriumgehalte in de urine gedurende 48 weken. Voorlopige analyse van 21 patiënten toonde aan dat, hoewel natriumgehaltes in de urine over tijd stabiel waren en varieerden tussen individuen, een significante daling vóór AHF-episodes niet statistisch werd bevestigd. Echter, alle patiënten vertoonden een toename van natriumuitscheiding na inname van lisdiuretica.
