This study develops a national car ownership model for Belgium, addressing the significant factors influencing household vehicle ownership across various built densities. Using the multinomial logistic regression model and the MONITOR travel survey data from 2016 to 2017, socioeconomic and demographic factors, residential characteristics, mobility resources, and public transport accessibility were examined. Higher income and larger household size strongly correlate with increased car ownership, particularly in Flanders. In contrast, subscriptions to shared mobility services and proximity to train stations reduce the likelihood of owning multiple cars. The results emphasize the importance of regional policies and sustainable transportation options in managing vehicle demand. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers and urban planners to promote ecological mobility and reduce car dependency, offering a basis for research in other high-density, car-centric regions.-
