Abstract: Pressure is one of the fundamental thermodynamic variables that determines the state and properties of a material. Varying the pressure can change bond lengths and angles or even the crystallographic phase of a material. Hybrid metal halides (HMHs), especially hybrid perovskites and related perovskite-inspired materials, are known to be relatively soft. As such, their structure and properties are particularly susceptible to changes in pressure. Tuning the properties of HMHs through the use of pressure has lately been receiving increasing research attention. In this article, we will present an overview of emerging trends in the use of pressure to tune the properties of HMHs and provide a perspective on future directions. We focus on three hot topics: Chiral HMHs under pressure, tuning the energetic band alignment between the organic and inorganic components through the application of pressure, and strategies to maintain enhanced properties upon pressure release.
