The book examines the institutional and legal framework of protected areas by analysing European and national legislation, with emphasis on key protection principles, the national (Greek) system and recent legislative developments. It reviews significant case law of the Court of Justice of the EU, management models in other EU Member States and Article 218 of Greek Law 4782/2021 on establishing protected sub-areas. The second edition incorporates amendments adopted in 2021 - 2025, new case law, a chapter on Wildlife Refuges and an assessment of the current framework, including conservation objectives and the progress of the Special Environmental Studies.-
