Abstract: Atmospheric pressure-temperature programmed reduction (AP-TPR) was used for the first time on raw and microbiologically treated samples as a technique to determine the degree of desulphurization of the various sulphur functionalities. Apart from the potentiometric detection, the evolved gases can now be detected by a mass spectrometer on-line coupled to the AP-TPR reactor (AP-TPR-MS). In this way, previous AP-TPR assignments are confirmed and proved by monitoring the release of organic volatile compounds. The evolution of SO2 clarifies the differences in sulphur recovery and provides information about the presence of oxidized compounds.
