Abstract: Over the last years AP-TPR (Atmospheric Pressure-Temperature Programmed Reduction) and XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) have proven themselves to be reliable techniques for the determination of the sulphur distribution in different solid materials. In this study, results from both methods on the sulphur distribution in samples from the high sulphur Mequinenza coal, are compared. Taken into consideration the limitations of both methods, the results prove to be in sufficient agreement.
