dc.description.abstract | We describe a novel system for rapid and easy modelling of 3D subdivision surfaces. The tools we developed are suitable for modelling components for shirts such as collars and cuffs. From the user's point of view, the modelling process is highly simplified by restricting the interaction to manipulation of a small number of curves in a 2D plane. Following object-specific rules, these curves are used to construct a quadrilateral Catmull-Clark subdivision mesh in 3D, while avoiding the introduction of unnecessary extraordinary points. A specially designed mass-spring system serves three goals: it ensures smooth connectivity with other components, minimizes the distortion of distances and angles and provides an optimal way to distribute texture coordinates. The resulting system enables people without prior experience in 3D modelling to rapidly create visually appealing textured models, whilst providing maximal control over surface geometry details. | - |
