Abstract: Raster data structures are characterized by pixel geometry and resolution. A method is proposed to reduce resolution to a minimum using spatial aggregation without information loss. The method is based on a matrix approach and developed for a two-dimensional spatial object. Perimeter measures and fractal dimension are shown not to be invariant to spatial aggregation.
