Title: | The influence of random removal of sources and items on the h-index | Authors: | EGGHE, Leo | Issue Date: | 2011 | Publisher: | SPRINGER | Source: | SCIENTOMETRICS, 88(2). p. 363-370 | Abstract: | If we have two information production processes with the same h-index, random removal of items causes one system to have a higher h-index than the other system while random removal of sources causes the opposite effect. In a Lotkaian framework we prove formulae for the h-index in case of random removal of items and in case of random removal of sources. In conclusion, we warn for the use of the h-index in case of incomplete data sets. | Notes: | [Egghe, L] Univ Hasselt UHasselt, B-3590 Diepenbeek, Belgium [Egghe, L] Univ Antwerpen UA, IBW, B-2000 Antwerp, Belgium | Keywords: | Random removal; Hirsch-index; H-index; Sources; Items;random removal; Hirsch-index; h-index; sources; items | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/12064 | ISSN: | 0138-9130 | e-ISSN: | 1588-2861 | DOI: | 10.1007/s11192-011-0411-0 | ISI #: | 000292210400002 | Category: | A1 | Type: | Journal Contribution | Validations: | ecoom 2012 |
