Title: | The relative concentration of a journal with respect to a subject and the use of online services in calculating it | Authors: | EGGHE, Leo | Issue Date: | 1988 | Source: | JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR INFORMATION SCIENCE, 39 (4), p. 281-284 | Abstract: | In this note we show that Pratt’s measure of relative concentration is not extreme in extreme cases and gives different values in some indistinguishable situations. We remedy these two drawbacks by defining a new measure of relative concentration, based on Pratt’s original definition. We then calculate this measure for the TRANSACTIONS OF THE AMERICAN MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY with respect to all mathematical publications for the years 1975, 1980, and 1985. | Notes: | EGGHE, L (reprint author), LIMBURGS UNIV CENTRUM,UNIV CAMPUS,B-3610 DIEPENBEEK,BELGIUM. | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/17909 | ISSN: | 0002-8231 | DOI: | 10.1002/(SICI)1097-4571(198807)39:4<281::AID-ASI8>3.0.CO;2-9 | ISI #: | A1988N954000007 | Rights: | © 1988 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. | Category: | A1 | Type: | Journal Contribution |
