The goal of this project was to develop a virtual reality system consisting of a graphical software application and an embedded system, connected with each other via Wi-Fi to make it wireless and portable. The software application acts as a server and the embedded system acts as a client for that server. The client is FPGA based and uses the MPU6050, a 6-axis inertia sensor, to measure and calculate its own three-dimensional movements. It sends this information to the server, which in turn sends back an image stored in a local database. On the client side this image is displayed on a LCD-screen. By changing the image according to the movement, the client end user becomes a spectator in a virtual environment. The end result is a functional proof of concept which can be further improved by using the DMPTM of the MPU6050 and adding a magnetometer for a more accurate tracking of the movements.-
