Abstract: Energy management and efficiency along with component lifetime extension are important concerns in small scale microgrids. In this document, a energy management system is proposed for a hybrid energy storage system in active configuration. Two different Bidirectional Boost converters are selected as interface components and the controllers for the different operation modes are presented. The proposed energy management system is aimed for residential microgrids and adaptable for Electric vehicles with minimum adjustment. In simulation, the behaviour of the system presents a suitable management of the stored energy, especially the transition between operation modes, looking for not only increasing the lifetime of components but also providing efficiency during operation.
