Title: | Communication problems on an oncology ward | Authors: | DE VALCK, Chris Van de Woestijne, KP |
Issue Date: | 1996 | Publisher: | Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. | Source: | PATIENT EDUCATION AND COUNSELING, 29(2). p. 131-136 | Abstract: | Within the field of oncology, the communication of an unfavourable diagnosis is regarded as a stressful event that affects all members of the oncology team, as well as the patient. In this exploratory study we found that the communication problems between doctors, patients and nursing staff were related to insufficient information exchange. A psychosocial registration sheet was developed in order to improve communication on the ward. The effects of the new approach are briefly commented upon. | Notes: | UNIV HOSP,DEPT LUNG DIS,B-3000 LOUVAIN,BELGIUM.DeValck, C, LIMBURGS UNIV CTR,DEPT HLTH PSYCHOL,UNIV CAMPUS,B-3590 DIEPENBEEK,BELGIUM. | Keywords: | cancer diagnosis; doctor-patient communication; oncology ward | Document URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/1942/3367 | DOI: | 10.1016/0738-3991(96)00908-1 | ISI #: | A1996VT80400001 | Type: | Journal Contribution |
