Abstract: This paper investigates the potential of two types of locally resonant metamaterials to damp out the vibrations of flexible rotating rings. First, a classical solution using tuned vibration absorbers with only one radial mode is investigated. For this solution, the resulting stopband is largely independent of the rotation speed. Next, tuned vibration absorbers with both radial and tangential modes are investigated. The presence of both modes allows the gyroscopic effect to split the stopband and potentially leading to a better vibration reduction.
