Abstract: In recent years, a number of theoretical information retrieval models have been developed, including the vector space model, the Boolean logic model, and the probabilistic retrieval model. Each of these models exhibits advantages and disadvantages both from the conceptual and the practical viewpoints. some of the strengths and weaknesses of these models are described and various relationships between them are examined. None of the available models is fully adequate in representing the characteristics of retrieval systems and operations.
